Companies house

What is Companies House and how does it work?

Companies House is a type of government body that stores different kinds of information of the limited companies and limited partnerships which are all registered in the UK. It acts as the official registrar of companies that are incorporated in the UK and carries out its functions in three different countries: Northern Ireland, Scotland, and England & Wales.

Limited companies and limited liability partnerships (LLPs) file the following documents with Companies House:

  • Accounts in a set format ('statutory accounts').
  • Annual Return, showing who are the directors/members of the organization, who owns the company and where it is registered.
  • Notifications for changing the address for directors, members, and the organization.

The above documents are stored by Companies House and put on the public record so that anyone can see who wants to look them up online.
